Getting Started
Do I need to create an account?
No account is required. Lift works completely offline with no sign-in. Your data is stored locally on your device and backed up through your own iCloud account.
How do I start my first workout?
Tap the "+" button on the Workouts tab to start a new workout. You can choose from a template, a training program, or build it from scratch by adding exercises from the library. Tap an exercise to log your sets.
How do I log a set?
With an exercise added to your workout, tap the set row to enter your weight and reps. You can also set an RPE rating and add notes. When the set is complete, tap the checkmark to mark it done and start the rest timer.
Can I use Lift for cardio only?
Yes. The Cardio tab lets you start GPS workouts independently of the strength training log. You can use Lift exclusively for running, cycling, hiking, or swimming without ever logging a lift.
How do I start a GPS cardio session?
Tap the Cardio tab, select your activity type (Run, Cycle, Hike, Walk, Swim), and tap Start. Allow location access when prompted — GPS is only used during active sessions. The session ends when you tap Finish.
Purchase & Restore
How much does Lift cost?
Lift is a one-time purchase of $4.99. There are no subscriptions, in-app purchases, or optional upgrades. You pay once and own the app forever, including all future updates.
Can I use Lift on multiple devices?
Yes. Your App Store purchase covers all iPhones you own using the same Apple ID. Your workout data syncs across devices via iCloud automatically.
How do I restore a purchase on a new phone?
Download Lift from the App Store on your new device using the same Apple ID. The app will unlock automatically. If it doesn't, go to Settings → Restore Purchase inside the app.
Is there a free trial?
Lift doesn't offer a free trial. All features are available immediately after purchase. Apple allows refunds within 14 days through the App Store if you're not satisfied — visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
Data & Privacy
Where is my data stored?
All your workout data is stored locally on your iPhone and backed up automatically through your personal iCloud account. Lift has no server, no cloud database, and no backend. Your data never leaves Apple's ecosystem.
Does Lift collect any analytics?
No. Lift contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting services, or advertising SDKs. We receive no data about how you use the app.
Does Lift access Apple Health?
Lift can write workout summaries and active calories to Apple Health. It never reads from your Health data. You can revoke this permission at any time in iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access.
How does GPS work with my privacy?
Location access is requested only when you start a GPS cardio session and is released as soon as you finish. Your GPS route data is stored only on your device. It is never transmitted to any server.
Can I export my workout history?
Yes. Go to Settings → Export Data in the app. You can export your full workout history as CSV or JSON files and save them to Files, share them, or import them elsewhere.
How do I back up or transfer my data?
iCloud backup happens automatically when your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi and power. To transfer to a new phone, restore from iCloud backup during iPhone setup, or use iCloud Drive for manual export and import.
Importing from Strong or Hevy
Can I import my Strong workout history?
Yes. In Strong, go to Settings → Export to CSV. Then in Lift, go to Settings → Import Data → Import from Strong and select the CSV file. Your entire workout history will be imported.
Can I import my Hevy workout history?
Yes. In Hevy, go to Profile → Export Workout Data and download the CSV. Then in Lift, go to Settings → Import Data → Import from Hevy and select the file.
Will my custom exercises transfer during import?
Custom exercise names from Strong and Hevy are preserved during import. Lift will match them to its library where possible and keep custom names for anything unmatched. You can rename or merge exercises after import.
Does importing data from another app cost anything?
No. Import is included with your one-time $4.99 purchase and works immediately after download.
Apple Watch
How do I install Lift on my Apple Watch?
After installing Lift on your iPhone, open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down to Available Apps, and tap Install next to Lift. The Watch app installs automatically and stays in sync.
Can I start a workout from the Watch without my phone?
Yes. You can log sets and start cardio sessions directly from your Watch. Data syncs to your iPhone when both are nearby or when your Watch reconnects.
Does the Watch app require watchOS 10?
Lift requires watchOS 10.0 or later. It's compatible with Apple Watch Series 4 and later.
Why isn't the Watch app syncing?
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on both devices and they're within range. Open Lift on your iPhone, then open it on your Watch — the sync should trigger automatically. If issues persist, try force-closing both apps and reopening.
GPS & Cardio
Which activities support GPS tracking?
GPS tracking is available for Outdoor Run, Outdoor Cycling, Outdoor Walk, and Hiking. Swimming and indoor activities use different tracking methods (lap counting and duration-based tracking respectively).
GPS isn't working — what should I check?
Make sure Location access is set to "While Using App" in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Lift. Go outdoors and wait a moment for the GPS signal to lock before starting. Avoid starting indoors or in dense urban canyons where signal may be weak.
How do I export a run as a GPX file?
Open the completed cardio workout in Lift, tap the share icon, and choose Export GPX. The file can be saved to Files or shared directly to Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot, or any other app that accepts GPX.
Does Couch to 5K work automatically?
Yes. The Couch to 5K plan manages run/walk intervals automatically using the voice coach. Just start the session and the coach will tell you when to run and when to walk. Progress through the plan at your own pace.
